Hello, I’m Andrew a product designer with over 10 years of experience in user experience design, data visualization, and information design. I work at the intersection of design and data, creating user-centered tools that help people explore data to discover insights, uncover trends, and enable data-driven decisions.

Throughout my career, I’ve focused on applying design thinking and visual methods to simplify complexity, reduce cognitive load, and clarify information. I thrive in technical environments—digging into workflows, identifying pain points, and designing solutions that make systems more intuitive and efficient. Thoughtful, purposeful user experiences are always at the heart of my work.

While much of my experience lies in the biological and medical sciences, I’m eager to take on new challenges in other complex and technical domains—bringing with me the rigor and empathy required to design for science-based workflows.

At Ginkgo Bioworks, I led the design of scientific tools supporting the company’s synthetic biology workflows. My work was grounded in user research, identifying high-impact opportunities and designing tools that reduced time-on-task and increased operational efficiency. Projects included a strain lineage viewer, strain verification tools, and a platform for managing client-driven R&D projects.

Previously, at the Broad Institute, I was the Senior Interaction Designer on both the Pattern and Cancer Data Science teams. I collaborated across the institute to build tools that supported primary research, from interactive data exploration platforms to applications for collecting data in longitudinal clinical trials. I also helped design scientific figures for publications and public-facing content to communicate complex research in fields like oncology, genomics, and microbiology.

Earlier in my career, I was Art Director at Cell Press, where I founded and led the organization’s first in-house art department. In this role, I established the visual identity and illustration style across Cell Press’s portfolio of 39 scientific journals. I collaborated closely with editors, authors, and marketing teams to create compelling scientific figures, cover art, and editorial illustrations that made complex research visually engaging and accessible. I also developed design systems and templates that streamlined production workflows while maintaining a high standard of quality and consistency across publications.
